Responsibilities

As an Application Engineer, you will design and implement business application environment solutions, fully documenting each solution from end to end. You'll provide 2nd and 3rd line support and troubleshooting assistance to the application support team and the wider IT team, helping to identify and rectify system errors, performance issues, and bottlenecks. Collaboration with IT delivery teams to develop and test application enhancements in appropriate lower environments will be key. You will evaluate application environment architecture and infrastructure to identify necessary upgrades and improvements, ensuring we meet our compatibility and obsolescence objectives. It is important that you document and track all work from inception to completion, maintaining accurate records and providing performance metrics to line management. You will prepare change records and deploy approved changes to system configurations and application builds, and provide instructions and requirements to other IT team members as needed. Moreover, you will assist with evidence gathering and documentation for internal or external audits, ensuring proper logging and audit records are maintained with suitable retention policies. We expect you to identify and present opportunities for innovation and risk mitigation within our technical stack, including new logging and reporting methods, technical tools, and improvements to existing tools. Upholding standardised Group IT procedures and controls is critical, and you will work to ensure they are regularly reviewed to align with industry best practices and regulatory guidelines, safeguarding the company against security breaches, financial crime, and issues related to intellectual property rights.

You will be responsible for the maintenance, environment design, implementation, documentation, and health monitoring of business applications and their underlying platform technologies used within the UK/EU region.
