Must:
We are looking for candidates who have strong experience in Embedded C programming and knowledge of embedded systems concepts and protocols such as CAN, SPI, and RS-422. A solid understanding of the software development lifecycle is essential, along with familiarity with PLM and ERP tools like TeamCenter and SAP. Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite is required. Ideally, you will also have experience with RTOS or Bare Metal systems, exposure to middleware and SOA architectures, knowledge of safety standards (DEF STAN 00-056, IEC 61508), and an understanding of electronic circuits. Experience with Matlab/Simulink is desirable. A degree (or equivalent) in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, along with 3 years of post-graduate engineering experience (or an equivalent combination of experience and qualifications) is expected.
Responsibilities
As a Senior Software Engineer, I will be responsible for designing and developing embedded software to meet defined requirements. My role will involve implementing code using Embedded C and modern programming languages such as C#. I will conduct software testing, verification, and validation activities while collaborating with electrical and systems engineers. Following the engineering lifecycle (V-model) and adhering to software development standards will be part of my daily tasks, along with providing regular updates to engineering management.
Description
This is a contract opportunity based in Barrow-in-Furness with a hybrid work model (2 to 3 days onsite per week), initially for 6 months with the potential to extend. The hourly pay rate is £47.86/hour (Umbrella) or £35.55/hour (PAYE). Due to the security nature of this role, candidates must have lived in the UK in the last 5 years and must be eligible to obtain security clearance. This position is offered by a leading defence engineering organisation, and it presents a fantastic opportunity to support high-impact programmes that maintain the UK's frontline capabilities while contributing to meaningful and technically diverse work in the defence sector.
