Requirements
Must:
To succeed as an AWS Cloud Database Administrator, I require candidates to have proven experience in a similar position. Key skills and experience should include:
- Proven experience as a Cloud Database Administrator, specifically with PostgreSQL.
- Strong experience with AWS cloud services, particularly RDS.
- In-depth knowledge of PostgreSQL database internals, architecture, and best practices.
- Proficiency in SQL, PL/pgSQL, and query optimization.
- Experience with database performance tuning and monitoring tools.
- Familiarity with database security practices and compliance standards.
- Scripting and automation skills using languages such as Python, Bash, JavaScript, or similar.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Responsibilities
As an AWS Cloud DBA, your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
1. Database Design and Architecture: Collaborate with software engineers, DevOps, and infrastructure teams to design and implement optimal database solutions for various applications. Participate in database schema design, indexing strategies, and query optimization to ensure efficient data storage and retrieval.
2. Database Deployment and Management: Deploy and configure PostgreSQL database instances on AWS RDS, considering factors such as instance sizing, storage, and security. Implement and manage replication, clustering, and backup/recovery strategies to ensure high availability and disaster recovery.
3. Performance Monitoring and Optimization: Monitor database performance and proactively identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, slow queries, and other issues affecting system responsiveness. Tune database parameters, indexes, and queries for optimal performance.
4. Security and Compliance: Implement and enforce security best practices for PostgreSQL databases, including user access controls, encryption, and data masking as needed. Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations related to data security and privacy.
5. Backup and Recovery: Develop and maintain backup and recovery strategies, including regular backups, automated recovery testing, and data retention policies.
6. Troubleshooting and Issue Resolution: Investigate and resolve database-related incidents, working closely with development and operations teams to diagnose and rectify issues.
7. Automation and Scripting: Develop automation scripts and tools for routine database tasks, deployments, monitoring, and scaling.
8. Documentation: Maintain comprehensive documentation for database configurations, processes, and procedures.
9. Collaboration and Training: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to provide database expertise and guidance. Provide training and guidance to junior members of the team as needed.
