As a potential candidate for our Senior Platform Engineer position, we are looking for individuals with the following essential criteria:
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
- Proven ability to build reliable, well-tested infrastructure as code (e.g., Terraform, AWS Copilot, CloudFormation, Pulumi).
- Fluency in one or more programming languages, demonstrating the ability to write clean and effective code.
- Solid knowledge of Linux/Unix fundamentals and TCP/IP networking.
- Capability to evaluate the user impact of infrastructure and platform changes, with a strong focus on enhancing developer experience.
- Extensive experience in independently designing solutions to complex technical problems.
Additionally, it would be beneficial if you have experience in designing and implementing Docker images and prototyping with open-source components.
Responsibilities
In your role as a Senior Platform Engineer, you will:
- Provide our development teams with essential tools, including observability, monitoring, dashboards, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Design and scale our global product platform at the Department for Business and Trade (DBT).
- Advocate for service-level objectives and negotiate error budgets.
- Participate in an on-call rota and contribute to driving improvements in developer experience, streamlining deployment, and boosting productivity.
- Engage in exciting projects, such as rolling out an observability tool for system monitoring, automating deployments to minimize downtime, and developing CLI tooling for our developers.
- Work with a variety of technologies including AWS, Azure, Terraform/CloudFormation, Docker, ECS/ECR, ElasticSearch/OpenSearch, Python/Django, PostgreSQL (RDS), Sentry, and Redis/Elasticache.
Description
We offer a competitive salary range of £63,824 to £83,778 (including allowances) along with excellent Civil Service benefits and pension options. Our offices are located in London, Cardiff, Darlington, Edinburgh, Belfast, Birmingham, and Salford, with opportunities for hybrid and flexible working arrangements (2-3 days in the office per week).
