Requirements
Must:
- Minimum of 2-3 years of verifiable, client-facing commercial development experience.
- Strong proficiency in modern PHP and expert-level skills in custom WordPress theme/plugin development.
- Experience with front-end frameworks such as Tailwind or Bootstrap.
- Solid understanding of HTML5, CSS/SCSS, and modern JavaScript (ES6+).
- Confident in consuming APIs and integrating third-party data into web platforms.
- Knowledge of accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1) and Core Web Vitals, with a good eye for design consistency.
- Familiarity with Git for version control and Google tools (GA, GSC, Tag Manager).
Responsibilities
- Develop, extend, and secure custom WordPress themes and plugins from Figma designs, showcasing WordPress mastery.
- Build and maintain WooCommerce solutions and implement custom PHP logic, working confidently with MySQL databases.
- Consume and implement RESTful APIs into WordPress and other client systems, focusing on secure data integration.
- Translate designs into responsive and accessible websites using HTML5, CSS/SCSS, and modern JavaScript.
- Implement SEO best practices, optimizing pages for performance, user experience, and conversion.
- Collaborate effectively with designers and backend developers, managing your own workload while contributing to team progress.

At Inside & Out, a web development studio based in Fife, we have been crafting websites, apps, and digital tools for over 20 years. We specialize in custom Laravel and WordPress projects, mobile apps, APIs, and SaaS platforms. Our client base spans various forward-thinking sectors, including hospitality and education, and we pride ourselves on delivering clean code, great user experience, and fostering long-term partnerships. Joining our small studio means you will be a highly valued, central contributor to the entire client delivery process, and we are dedicated to supporting your growth alongside the business. We offer a hybrid working model, with 2-3 days in our modern Burntisland studio, 30 days of paid holiday per year, ongoing training and development, and the opportunity to have a significant impact at every stage of the project, from planning through to launch. We expect candidates to confirm they have the necessary experience and are either currently residing in or have confirmed plans to relocate to the Fife/Edinburgh commuting area. This is a full-time, permanent position with a salary of up to £32,000 per year, along with additional benefits such as a company pension and free on-site parking.
