Requirements
Must:
- 10 to 15 years of hands-on AI and machine learning experience, with demonstrable production deployments at scale
- PhD in Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science or Machine Learning strongly preferred; publications in computer vision, multimodal AI or related fields are a significant advantage
- Broad and current knowledge of the AI model landscape — understanding existing and emerging tools and evaluating them objectively
- Experience designing hybrid edge and cloud inference architectures with offline-first constraints
- Proven ability to lead senior technical teams through complex, fast-moving projects where requirements may change
- Comfortable operating at the intersection of academic research partnerships and commercial delivery
- Strong facilitation skills for difficult technical conversations, promoting constructive outcomes without ego
- Fluency in English required; proficiency in Italian is a strong advantage
- A genuine belief that AI agents are collaborators, neither a threat to skilled engineers nor merely tools

Responsibilities
- Review, validate, and potentially replace preliminary technology selection based on the current AI landscape
- Design and own end-to-end technical architecture across five AI modules and two operational applications
- Orchestrate the full model stack across various applications including vision, multimodal reasoning, forensic analysis, and vector search
- Lead the data pipeline strategy for a large proprietary dataset, including anonymisation and training readiness
- Define and manage fallback model strategies for offline and low-connectivity environments
- Ensure compliance with EU data residency and requirements across models and infrastructure choices
- Liaise with academic research partners to translate R&D outputs into production-ready components
- Mentor and guide a diverse engineering team, fostering growth and collaboration
- Maintain architectural coherence as requirements evolve and adapt to changes in the AI landscape
- Build and sustain a team culture of constructive challenges, accountability, and mutual respect
