Requirements

Must:
To be successful as a Senior Infrastructure Engineer, I expect you to have proven experience in a 3rd line support role. You should be confident working with virtualization technologies (such as VMware), Windows Server environments, and cloud platforms like Azure. A solid understanding of networking fundamentals, backup software, endpoint protection, and Microsoft services is essential. Experience with Microsoft Defender, Mimecast, and email deliverability is highly desirable, along with experience in SharePoint and OneDrive configuration and administration. I am looking for someone who thrives in a collaborative environment, communicates clearly, and enjoys solving complex technical challenges.

Responsibilities

As a Senior Infrastructure Engineer, you will provide expert 3rd line support, taking ownership of technical issues and service requests to deliver timely and effective resolutions. You will maintain our virtual infrastructure, overseeing patching, backups, and system upgrades, while also monitoring and managing endpoint and server protection using tools such as Microsoft Defender to ensure our systems are secure. A critical part of your role will involve supporting email security and deliverability, leveraging platforms like Mimecast to ensure robust protection and reliable communication across the organization. Additionally, you will work closely with internal stakeholders and external suppliers to manage installations, upgrades, and changes to systems and services, offering expert advice and technical guidance throughout. Your responsibilities will also include supporting corporate IT services, with a strong focus on security and Microsoft technologies, including SharePoint and OneDrive. You will collaborate with other IT colleagues, sharing knowledge and providing professional support to enhance team capabilities and service delivery.

Description

I am offering a friendly and supportive working environment, where being part of a smaller Council allows you to really get to know everyone. I believe in encouraging a healthy work-life balance by providing 28 days (207.2 hours) annual leave plus bank holidays (pro-rata), along with flexible/hybrid working options where applicable. Our generous benefits package includes access to an online platform for discounts from various retailers and a car lease scheme. You will also be eligible to join the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS), where the Council contributes around 20% of your pensionable salary. To support your professional development, I provide reimbursement for professional subscriptions and a variety of training opportunities, including extensive in-house learning resources, short courses, apprenticeships, and qualifications such as the Institute of Leadership & Management (ILM) and Master of Business Administration (MBA). If you would like to apply for this role, I highly recommend that you clearly demonstrate how you meet the essential criteria in the Experience Section of the application form. If you do not make this clear, it is unlikely you will be shortlisted for an interview.
