Requirements

Must:
To thrive in this role, you’ll need: - Strong experience with Cloud SQL (MySQL) and BigQuery, including indexing, query plans, and schema design. - Hands-on production experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP). - Proficiency in Terraform, Git, Bash, and other scripting/IaC tools. - Familiarity with monitoring tools like Cloud Monitoring or New Relic. - Solid understanding of database security, IAM, encryption, and audit logging. - Proven operational experience with high availability, backups, disaster recovery, and change management. - Excellent documentation and stakeholder communication skills. Bonus points for experience with Couchbase, Redis, Kubernetes, Airbyte, Laravel, and Agile methodologies. GCP certifications (Data Engineer or Cloud Architect) are also desirable.

Responsibilities

As a Senior Database Administrator, you’ll play a pivotal role in our technology function, leading the design, optimisation, and scaling of our cloud-based data platform. You’ll be responsible for both transactional and analytical workloads across Cloud SQL (MySQL) and BigQuery, ensuring performance, reliability, security, and cost-efficiency. This is a hands-on role where you’ll manage high availability setups, performance tuning, disaster recovery planning, automation, and observability. You’ll also mentor engineers, maintain documentation, and manage third-party relationships.
