Requirements
Must:
I require an individual with extensive experience in enterprise VOIP and Unified Communications platforms, including Cisco Call Manager, SIP, and Cloud Voice. You should have in-depth knowledge of SIP, ISDN, PSTN, RTP/SRTP, and voice gateway technologies. A strong understanding of QoS, DHCP, DNS, and the network dependencies that impact voice quality is essential. You must have a proven track record of migrating from legacy voice systems to modern SIP/Cloud solutions. Additionally, you should possess enterprise networking knowledge (Cisco, Aruba, Fortinet) and experience integrating voice across LAN/WAN and firewalls. Proficiency in network and voice monitoring tools such as SolarWinds, PRTG, and Prime Infrastructure is necessary. I also value strong stakeholder management and vendor relationship skills, along with the ability to lead large-scale technical projects with minimal supervision.
Responsibilities
As the Senior VOIP Infrastructure Engineer, I expect you to serve as the service owner for enterprise VOIP and Unified Communications platforms. You will define and deliver the roadmap for VOIP technologies in alignment with our digital strategy and act as the senior escalation point for all VOIP-related incidents and problems. Your responsibilities will include leading the design, implementation, and migration of enterprise telephony services (Cisco Call Manager, SIP/Cloud platforms) and managing the transition from ISDN-based services to SIP/cloud voice solutions, ensuring resilience and cost-effectiveness. You will oversee the integration of VOIP with core network, data center, and security infrastructures, ensuring high availability and optimal performance of VOIP services through proactive monitoring, capacity planning, and fault resolution. Additionally, you will develop and maintain disaster recovery strategies for voice systems, produce and maintain high- and low-level documentation and operational procedures, and lead enterprise-wide voice infrastructure projects from planning to deployment and support. Collaboration with Estates, Facilities, and third-party vendors is key to delivering end-to-end solutions. You will present technical designs to senior managers and stakeholders, ensuring understanding and alignment while providing technical leadership and mentoring to infrastructure engineers.
Description
This is a 6-month contract position with the opportunity to extend to 12 months, operating within the scope of IR35, and will require you to work 37 hours per week with a hybrid working pattern. Our partnership with a large public sector organization in Birmingham city center is focused on finding an accomplished VOIP Infrastructure Engineer to lead the design, delivery, and ongoing management of its enterprise voice and Unified Communications environment. As the technical authority for VOIP services, you will be integral to ensuring a robust, secure, and scalable telephony infrastructure that supports critical operations.
