Requirements

Must:
- We are looking for an existing Lead or Senior Java Developer with strong experience in Spring-based development. - We need someone with proven experience driving engineering improvements, best practice, and code quality. - We require a leader who can balance technical delivery with people management in a 50/50 leadership and hands-on role. - We need experience leading or guiding a team of engineers, ideally around 6, with a minimum of 3. - We are looking for strong stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to translate architectural direction into clear engineering action. - We need confidence across backend systems, API development, and database interaction, particularly Oracle and SQL. - We value awareness of modern DevOps, CI/CD, cloud technologies, and emerging technology trends. - Exposure to Azure or other cloud-based environments would be beneficial. - Any practical experience applying AI in tooling, integrations, or product features would be an advantage. - We cannot offer visa sponsorship for this role.

Responsibilities

- We want you to lead technical delivery while remaining close enough to the code to guide engineering decisions. - We want you to manage and support a technical team, providing structure, clarity, and consistency. - We expect you to work closely with architecture and senior stakeholders to translate technical direction into actionable delivery. - We want you to champion clean code, development standards, and engineering best practice. - We expect you to help improve code quality and continuously raise engineering standards across the team. - We want you to contribute to the evolution of the teams technical capability, including future full-stack development direction. - We want you to participate in discussions around cloud adoption, particularly Azure. - We want you to contribute to the exploration and application of AI in internal tooling and future product capability. - We expect you to help build scalable, maintainable backend systems that support real-world operations at scale.

Our technology function is undergoing significant investment as we modernise and evolve our platforms, including the use of AI in production. This is a hybrid role based in Southampton, with one day per week in the office, offering a salary of £73,000 to £75,000 plus a 10% bonus, 8% pension, private medical cover, life assurance, and 25 days holiday plus bank holidays. You will join a collaborative team of 6, where you can influence both technical direction and team culture, with the stability of a multinational and the close collaboration of an SME.
