Requirements
Must:
- Strong experience as a SQL Server DBA and/or Oracle DBA supporting enterprise environments
- Hands-on experience with migration tools and techniques for both SQL Server and Oracle
- Skilled in backup and recovery operations, performance tuning, and troubleshooting
- Knowledge of building and administering SQL Server or Oracle on Azure VMs or co-lo platforms
- Understanding of networking fundamentals relevant to database connectivity
- Experience supporting or migrating SQL Server databases
- Experience supporting or migrating Oracle databases
- Experience with databases underpinning .NET, web or client-server applications
- Ability to diagnose complex database issues during high-pressure migration events
- Comfortable working within structured change control processes
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with Azure SQL or SQL Managed Instance
- Experience with Oracle on Azure or hybrid environments
- Scripting capability using PowerShell, T-SQL or PL/SQL
- Previous involvement in large-scale migration or datacentre exit programmes
Responsibilities
- Plan, prepare, and execute database migrations that support the wider application migration programme
- Manage SQL Server and Oracle databases hosted on-premises and migrating into Azure or a co-location datacentre
- Define and build the required database server infrastructure within Azure landing zones or co-lo platforms
- Ensure compatibility, performance, and operational readiness of migrated databases
- Maintain data integrity throughout the migration process
- Configure hosting environments correctly for each application workload
- Diagnose complex database issues during high-pressure migration events
Description
We are Harvey Nash, currently recruiting for a Database Architect / Migration DBA (Oracle / SQL Server) to join our team on a 12-month remote working contract, with occasional office time spent in Edinburgh. This role is outside of IR35 and offers the opportunity to be a key player in our application migration programme, focusing on ensuring safe and efficient database migrations. With a strong emphasis on performance and operational readiness, we value expertise in both SQL Server and Oracle environments and look forward to welcoming a talented individual to our dynamic team.
