We are looking for someone who has a solid understanding of OSI Layers 3, 2, and 1. Knowledge of Network Operations, including VLANS, RSTP, Ethernet, and Router/Switch configuration, is essential. Additionally, familiarity with Home Networks, Servers, Email, Wi-Fi access points, and Ethernet is expected. Previous experience in conducting deep investigations involving elements at the Distribution level (routers, switches, NTE, CPE, etc.) and experience in managing major incidents is crucial. A degree in a relevant technology discipline (e.g., Computer Science, Networks, IT) is desirable. A qualification such as CCNA or equivalent is preferred, and ITIL awareness would be an advantage.
Responsibilities
As a Senior NOC Engineer - Tier 2, my main responsibility will be ensuring the healthy operation of our WAN through reactive fault resolution on our cabinet switches and routers, as well as performing proactive maintenance tasks such as updating software and firmware. I will own cases escalated from the Tier 1 team (NOC Engineer) and work diligently to resolve these within pre-agreed SLAs. Additionally, I will liaise with technicians and customers to ensure speedy resolutions. This role requires me to work as part of a lean and efficient team that collaborates closely to keep our customer network operational 24/7/365 under the guidance of our NOC Manager.
Description
This is a hybrid role based at our Head Office in Abingdon, Oxon. Our NOC operates on a shift basis, covering Monday to Friday from 7 AM to 9 PM, and Saturdays and Sundays (including Bank Holidays) from 10 AM to 5 PM. There is an on-call duty requirement once every 2-4 weeks, which is compensated separately.
