Requirements
Must:
- Degree in an engineering or numerate discipline, or equivalent experience
- Strong understanding of network communication systems and architectures (LAN/WAN, network security), ideally in a safety related environment
- Knowledge of systems engineering life cycle
- Experience meeting industry quality and safety standards
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, able to communicate technical information at all levels
- Ability to work to tight deadlines
- Cisco certification (CCNA level or above), or equivalent practical experience
- Chartered engineer status (desirable)
- IRSE Licence (desirable)
- Experience with technologies such as SDN, virtualisation, data centre networking, or network automation (desirable)
- Experience with UK railway telecoms design or operational standards (desirable)
- Understanding of wider railway systems (desirable)
Responsibilities
- Develop network designs for a variety of rail infrastructure projects
- Adapt approved template architectures to meet project-specific needs
- Contribute to both outline and detailed network designs
- Ensure work is delivered on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards
- Support testing, validation, and implementation activities
- Design, configure, and test signalling network solutions
- Create high level network designs and functional design specifications
- Produce network architecture diagrams
- Design IP addressing and subnetting
- Develop cable schematics and diversity plans
- Setup and configure networks
- Conduct Factory Acceptance Testing
- Undertake onsite build and testing
- Perform integration and system testing
- Monitor progress of work packages and maintain design timescales
- Ensure all design work meets relevant technical and safety standards
- Assess technical accuracy and quality of tenders
- Support health and safety compliance
- Review and check network designs produced by others at similar or junior levels
Description
We are currently seeking a Lead Network Engineer for a project in Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Leicestershire, lasting over 5 months. In this role, you will focus on developing network designs tailored to rail infrastructure projects, emphasizing connectivity, cybersecurity, and performance. You will work within a collaborative team, reporting to the Design Manager, and benefit from our commitment to professional growth and safety compliance.
