Requirements
Must:
- Degree in an engineering or numerate discipline, or equivalent experience
- Strong understanding of network communication systems and architectures (LAN/WAN, network security), ideally in a safety-related environment
- Knowledge of systems engineering life cycle
- Experience meeting industry quality and safety standards
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, able to communicate technical information at all levels
- Ability to work to tight deadlines
- Cisco certification (CCNA level or above), or equivalent practical experience
- Chartered engineer status (desirable)
- IRSE Licence (desirable)
- Experience with technologies such as SDN, virtualization, data centre networking, or network automation (desirable)
- Experience with UK railway telecoms design or operational standards (desirable)
- Understanding of wider railway systems (desirable)
Responsibilities
- Develop high-level network designs and functional design specifications
- Create network architecture diagrams
- Design IP addressing and subnetting
- Produce cable schematics and diversity plans
- Configure and set up network solutions
- Conduct Factory Acceptance Testing
- Oversee on-site build and testing activities
- Perform integration and system testing
- Monitor progress of work packages and maintain design timescales
- Ensure all design work meets relevant technical and safety standards
- Assess technical accuracy and quality of tenders
- Support health and safety compliance
- Review and check network designs produced by others at similar or junior levels
Description
We are currently recruiting for a Lead Network Engineer based in Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Leicestershire for a duration of 5 months. In this role, you will play a vital part in developing network designs for a variety of rail infrastructure projects, focusing on connectivity, cybersecurity, and system performance. You will contribute to both outline and detailed network designs, ensuring that we deliver work on time, within budget, and to high-quality standards.
