Requirements
Must:
- Strong experience in line management and team leadership
- Expertise in real-time and event-driven data platforms
- Proficiency in cloud data engineering on AWS
- Strong SQL and T-SQL skills
- Familiarity with SQL Server ETL/ELT pipelines, SSIS, Matillion or similar
- Experience with data visualization tools like Tableau or similar
- Awareness of Infrastructure as Code, such as Terraform
- Strong stakeholder management skills
- Useful (but not essential): experience with Lakehouse or cloud-native data platform architecture
- Knowledge of data lakes, object storage, and large-scale analytical processing
- Exposure to machine learning or advanced analytics
- Understanding of AWS security, networking, and access control
- Awareness of GDPR and data governance
Responsibilities
- Leading and developing the data engineering squad, conducting performance conversations and supporting career development
- Getting hands-on with pipelines, cloud infrastructure, transformation layers, and reporting
- Driving the migration toward real-time, event-driven data processing
- Keeping existing SQL Server environments stable and performant during the build-out of the modern platform
- Collaborating with stakeholders across the business to understand requirements and deliver solutions
- Embedding good engineering practices such as CI/CD, IaC, and Agile where they are not already present
- Mentoring colleagues and helping to grow capability across the team
