Requirements
Must:
- Some experience in a data engineering, BI development, or similar data-focused role
- Strong SQL skills and understanding of relational databases
- Experience building or supporting data pipelines or ETL processes
- Exposure to Microsoft data technologies (e.g. Azure Data Factory, SQL Server, Synapse, or similar)
- Understanding of basic data modelling concepts (e.g. star schema, dimensional modelling)
- Familiarity with cloud data concepts (data lakes, warehouses, or similar environments)
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment under senior technical guidance
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
- Exposure to Power BI or other BI tools (nice to have)
- Basic experience with Python or scripting for data processing (nice to have)
- Awareness of medallion architecture (bronze/silver/gold) (nice to have)
- Experience working with APIs or multiple data source types (nice to have)
- Understanding of data quality or governance principles (nice to have)
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain ETL/ELT data pipelines using Microsoft data technologies
- Support the development of a structured data warehouse, contributing to bronze, silver, and gold layer models
- Work closely with the Senior Data Engineer to deliver scalable and well-governed data solutions
- Develop and optimise SQL-based transformations and data workflows
- Integrate data from multiple sources including internal systems, APIs, and external datasets
- Support implementation of data quality checks, validation rules, and monitoring processes
- Assist in delivering curated datasets used for Power BI and reporting solutions
- Contribute to documentation, testing, and code reviews
- Collaborate with analytics and business teams to understand data requirements
Description
We are looking for a Data Engineer to join our growing analytics and data team supporting a major transformation programme. This hands-on engineering role involves working closely with a Senior Data Engineer to design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines and data warehouse solutions across a modern Microsoft-based data platform. Our small, collaborative data team offers strong technical leadership and a hybrid working environment in West Yorkshire, where we work 2-3 days per week in the office. We maintain close working relationships with analytics stakeholders and provide clear opportunities for progression into more senior engineering roles.
