Requirements
Must:
We seek candidates with a degree in Computer Science or a related discipline. You should be a Software Engineer with at least 3 years of professional experience in software development, particularly in web back-end development. Experience in web cloud infrastructure and Agile processes is essential. Good communication skills are important, along with proficiency in Java development, developing RESTful services, and utilizing SpringBoot. Additionally, familiarity with developing web infrastructure, such as Solr and Kubernetes, is required. Experience with Git and basic Unix commands is necessary, and experience with large data processing technologies like Apache Spark is a plus.
Responsibilities
In this role, I will rely on you to design and develop software and APIs for the UniProt data services and website, providing vital protein information to the scientific community and computational biologists. You will work on the design, maintenance, and monitoring of the website's cloud infrastructure, ensuring its scalability through clear, concise, well-tested, and documented code. I expect you to apply analytic engines and technical approaches to the distributed processing of big data, with the ability to work towards tight deadlines.
Description
Our team is dynamic and interdisciplinary, composed of talented and enthusiastic software engineers and bioinformaticians collaborating closely with biologists and scientists. The UniProt resource is one of the most internationally used protein databases, supporting a large and diverse research community in genomics, proteins, and proteomics. We work in a hybrid pattern, spending two days per week in the office. Regarding benefits and contract information, we offer financial incentives, including monthly family and child allowances, a relocation package, and a comprehensive benefits package including private medical insurance, generous annual leave, and family benefits. This position is a 3-year project-based contract, with a monthly salary starting at £3,229 to £3,612 after tax (excluding pension and insurance).
