Requirements
Must:
- University degree in computer science, life sciences, or related discipline
- Substantial experience developing full-stack web applications
- Solid experience with Java or Python for backend development
- Extensive hands-on experience with JavaScript and modern frontend frameworks (e.g., React)
- Experience with Containerization (Docker) and deploying applications to Kubernetes environments
- Experience configuring CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitLab CI, Jenkins) for automated testing and deployment
- Experience working with databases (Relational or NoSQL) and designing data models
- Strong affinity with EMBL-EBIs goal of providing open data to the global scientific community
- Excellent communication skills to bridge technical and scientific requirements
- Self-starter attitude, comfortable working on a greenfield project with evolving requirements
- Additional experience with data systems that operate at scale and biological data preferred
Responsibilities
- Design and implement the new Spatial Transcriptomics portal, including backend API services, frontend user interfaces, and supporting infrastructure
- Develop a shared and powerful search interface for dataset discovery based on biological metadata
- Design automated pipelines to validate incoming data against agreed standards (FAIR principles)
- Support the development of conversion pipelines for raw data files into cloud-native formats (e.g., OME-Zarr)
- Embed and integrate advanced spatial visualization tools into the portal
- Act as the technical liaison between the BioImage Archive and Functional Genomics teams, ensuring seamless integration with existing systems

We are a pioneering team in the field of Spatial Transcriptomics, collaborating with the BioImage Archive to create a unified resource for complex multi-modal data. Our mission is to develop the Spatial Transcriptomics Portal, a greenfield project that will serve scientists worldwide.
