Requirements
Must:
- A degree in Computer Science or related field
- Demonstrated ability to pick up new technologies quickly
- Proficiency in Javascript/TypeScript and experience with modern frameworks (we are using React)
- Solid understanding of database design driven by application requirements
- Experience designing microservices and managing state across distributed systems
- Production experience designing and managing MongoDB clusters
- Proven experience tuning Apache Solr or Elasticsearch for high-performance/high-volume scenarios
- Hands-on experience with Kubernetes, Helm, and CI/CD pipelines (GitLab CI/Jenkins)
- Deep knowledge of visualisation libraries (D3.js, Highcharts) and performance optimisation for rendering large datasets in the browser
- Ability to analyse and understand user needs to derive appropriate solutions
- Strong enthusiasm for iterative development, code reviews, and collaborative work in a cross-functional environment

Responsibilities
- Contribute to the implementation of a secondary database using MongoDB for complex metadata handling
- Implement Redis-based caching strategies to improve query response times and reduce load on primary data stores
- Tune Apache Solr and PostgreSQL configurations to handle large data matrices and improve page load speeds
- Collaborate with the Tech Lead to refactor legacy codebases and manage microservices within our Kubernetes cluster
- Implement and update React components and data visualisations to present complex biological data effectively
- Evaluate the efficacy of solutions using real-world measurements and adapt them accordingly
