Requirements
Must:
I am looking for candidates who have at least 5 years of IT experience in cloud computing across virtualized environments (VMs, containers, Kubernetes, serverless) on platforms such as AWS, GCP, or OpenStack. You should have proven experience in Agile/Scrum delivery environments and a strong knowledge of on-prem infrastructure (servers, storage, networking). Experience supporting demanding users, such as those in research or scientific communities, is essential. Solid Linux expertise, preferably with RHEL, and relevant cloud certifications (e.g., solutions architecture) are also required. You should have experience modernizing applications, including multi-region deployments, and be skilled in automated, repeatable Linux/cloud service deployments tailored for scientific needs. Hands-on delivery of public cloud training and familiarity with FinOps practices and cost optimization are important, as well as the ability to prioritize tasks, lead technical teams, and represent team efforts in meetings. Previous experience managing small technical teams is also desired.
Responsibilities
In this role, I will be leading a sub-team of three DevOps engineers and working closely with engineering to deliver strategic initiatives identified by the organization. I will actively contribute to the Applications team's roadmap design while building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders across EMBL-EBI. My responsibilities include ensuring a good understanding of organizational activities to gather and translate requirements and manage expectations. I will foster a mindset for solutions architecture to develop reusable architecture blueprints, and plan, design, and evolve self-service, scalable platforms for our users. I will also drive a cost-awareness culture through FinOps, empowering teams to optimize resource usage. Additionally, I will track project performance to ensure that deadlines are met and outcomes achieved, and coordinate cross-functional teams for effective delivery.
