Must:
We are looking for suitable candidates who hold an appropriate first degree in a STEM subject, preferably with a relevant MSc or PhD. You should demonstrate experience in the Software Development Lifecycle, using a modern high-level language, and possess an understanding of good software design principles and design for usability. Knowledge and experience of developing software to control and monitor scientific or industrial equipment or IoT is preferable. Familiarity with synchrotron or neutron central facility experiments is also a plus. Experience of working with large and complex codebases would be a distinct advantage, as well as experience in Python, the HDF5 file format, Typescript, UI development, Java, the Eclipse RCP platform, REST, Kubernetes, and asynchronous computing. Additionally, you should display good communication, interpersonal, and analytical skills, with a personal interest or experience in science.
Responsibilities
In this role, you will lead a team supporting the Soft Condensed Matter (SCM) and Crystallography (X) Science Groups, which cover a wide range of scientific disciplines. You will drive the support for Diamond's data acquisition needs using our GDA (Generic Data Acquisition) software while also focusing on the transition to our next-generation data acquisition platform, Athena. Your responsibilities include facilitating the transition of experimental capabilities from GDA to Athena and actively collaborating with beamline scientists and DAQ Core team members to deliver SCM and X DAQ features. You will provide valuable insights to the Core team to refine Athena’s generic capabilities and potentially participate in international collaborations within this domain.

We are modernizing our DAQ software from GDA to Athena, which will offer advanced capabilities for our Beamlines.
