Must:
- We require strong experience with Windows Server 2016, 2019, and 2022, including installation, configuration, Active Directory fundamentals, Group Policies, DNS, DHCP, DFS, and domain communication paths.
- We require proven expertise supporting and administering Hyper-V environments, including cluster management, system builds, virtual networking, and troubleshooting.
- We require experience planning, installing, configuring, and upgrading VMware ESXi and vCenter Server.
- We require strong knowledge of enterprise storage solutions, including HPE and Dell arrays and Microsoft Storage Spaces Direct, with experience in performance monitoring, optimisation, and capacity planning.
- We require advanced PowerShell scripting capability for automation.
- We require experience supporting HCI and converged infrastructure platforms, including Dell and HP systems.
- We require proficiency with backup and security solutions such as Symantec NetBackup and Symantec MFA.
- We require a strong understanding of systems management tools including RDS, WSUS, and SCCM, along with their deployment and monitoring processes.
- We require hands-on experience supporting BAU operational activities across Windows, storage, backup, and workstation environments, including troubleshooting, patching, and software upgrades.
- We require the ability to create and interpret HLDs, LLDs, and build guides, ensuring clear documentation of infrastructure solutions.
- We require experience working within controlled data centre environments, including system builds, cabling, proactive monitoring, and physical hardware management.
- We require strong working knowledge of Extreme, Cisco, Dell, and HPE switching platforms, including configuration, troubleshooting, and performance monitoring.
- We require understanding of enterprise firewall concepts with exposure to Juniper and Palo Alto firewall technologies.
- We require the ability to diagnose complex network issues impacting servers, storage, virtual machines, authentication paths, and workstation connectivity.
- We require solid understanding of networking fundamentals, including VLANs, trunking, routing basics, ARP, STP, link aggregation, segmentation, and multi-network secure architectures.
- We require demonstrated ability to support domain-integrated services including DNS, DHCP, and domain structure in secure, multi-tiered environments.
- We require strong analytical, diagnostic, and problem-solving ability across all infrastructure layers.
- We require DV clearance or willingness to undergo vetting.
- We require the ability to work onsite at our Aldermaston client site five days per week, with occasional work from home.
- We require strong communication skills and the ability to work professionally with internal stakeholders and external suppliers.
- We prefer experience with Azure Cloud and/or Oracle Cloud platforms for hybrid infrastructure integration.
- We prefer exposure to VMware technologies including ESXi, vCenter, and virtual networking.
- We prefer knowledge of enterprise storage platforms such as Left-Hand Storage, EMC Networker/Unity, HPE 3PAR, SAN, MSA, and StoreOnce solutions.
- We prefer experience supporting SAN/NAS storage networking, including fibre channel and iSCSI fabrics.
- We prefer industry certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, or relevant vendor qualifications from HPE, Dell, or Cisco.
- We prefer exposure to Juniper and Palo Alto firewall technologies and understanding of enterprise firewall behaviour and policy structures.
- We prefer familiarity with software-defined networking concepts, segmentation models, and secure multi-network designs.
- We prefer experience working with complex datacentre networking topologies, including VLAN design, LACP or link aggregation, spanning-tree management, and multi-layer switching.
- We prefer Linux operating system knowledge and administrative capability.
- We prefer experience using monitoring or orchestration tools for network or infrastructure automation such as PowerShell, Python, Ansible, or similar.
- We prefer project management experience with the ability to run or contribute to technical workstreams.
- We prefer ITIL Foundation certification and exposure to ITIL Transition processes.
Responsibilities
- We provide excellent 3rd and 4th line support across server, storage, networking, and desktop environments.
- We manage and support Windows Server, storage, Hyper-V, clustering, HCI platforms, backups, and monitoring systems.
- We perform performance monitoring, patching, image deployment, and system optimisation across infrastructure services.
- We troubleshoot issues across servers, storage, virtual machines, authentication paths, and workstations.
- We support enterprise networking across Extreme, Cisco, Dell, and HPE switching, including configuration and fault resolution.
- We assist with Juniper and Palo Alto firewall environments and resolve network connectivity issues.
- We apply core networking principles including VLANs, routing basics, STP, ARP, link aggregation, and network segmentation.
- We maintain DNS, DHCP, and domain communication services across multi-network environments.
- We perform datacentre operations such as cabling, hardware installation, configuration changes, and proactive health checks.
- We contribute to infrastructure and network projects, upgrades, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- We create and maintain documentation including HLDs, LLDs, build guides, and operational procedures.
- We participate in Incident, Change, and Problem Management processes following ITIL practices.
- We deliver solution implementation, troubleshooting, performance optimisation, and root cause analysis across server, storage, and virtualisation layers.
- We collaborate closely with Networking, Storage, Security, Desktop, and Application teams.
- We manage multiple workstreams concurrently and respond rapidly to critical incidents.
- We proactively identify risks, service improvements, and potential failures to prevent recurring issues.
- We support project delivery, including infrastructure upgrades, platform enhancements, obsolescence remediation, data centre improvements, and Hyper-V cluster lifecycle activities.

We are a high-performance, fast-paced Enterprise IT team supporting a major public-sector client from our onsite location in Aldermaston, with occasional work from home. This is a strategically important role within our On-Prem Infrastructure and wider Enterprise Server Management function, where we focus on stability, resilience, security, and the ongoing evolution of critical IT services.
