Requirements
Must:
- Hold a valid passport, birth certificate, or residence permit.
- Have the right to live and work in the UK.
- Must have lived in the UK and/or EEA (European Economic Area) for 3 years prior to the apprenticeship start date or hold refugee status.
- Not be in full-time education or undertaking another apprenticeship by the apprenticeship start date.
- Must not hold an existing qualification at the same or higher level in a similar subject.
- Must hold GCSEs in Maths and English at Grade C/4 or above or complete and pass a functional skills test.
- Attention to detail.
- Good communication skills.
- Good problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to balance work and study.
- Passion for learning new things.
Responsibilities
As a Test Engineer apprentice, I will play a key role in ensuring the quality of the digital services that millions rely on. I will begin with two 8-week boot camps, then join an engineering team for around 12 months, learning to use tools like Selenium, Playwright, and Rest Assured. I will build a portfolio as part of my 24-month Level 4 Software Tester apprenticeship, finishing with a practical and portfolio-based assessment.
As a Software Engineering Apprentice, I will work with modern technologies such as Java, Node.JS, Microservices, and Test-Driven Development, contributing to the design and delivery of digital services. The programme includes structured boot camps and hands-on experience within engineering teams, leading to a Level 4 Software Developer qualification. I will be supported by my line manager, skills coach, the wider engineering community, and fellow apprentices, giving me plenty of encouragement to succeed.
