I am looking for a Service Designer who possesses the following skills, knowledge, and experience:
- The ability to utilize user research, data, and hands-on service design approaches to tackle complex problems and develop end-to-end services that meet departmental needs.
- Proficiency in communicating the value of user-centricity and design decisions to stakeholders at all levels.
- Experience in rapid idea generation and iteration, including sketching and prototyping, to effectively explore and share design concepts.
- A commitment to creating and maintaining a collaborative, positive working environment, engaging regularly with senior stakeholders, and contributing to the wider service design community.
Responsibilities
As a Service Designer at DWP Digital, my role is to help shape services that support over 22 million people across the UK. I will work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams spanning policy, product, delivery, and operations to co-create user-centered, end-to-end services that are inclusive, resilient, and aligned with departmental goals. I will apply hands-on service design methods to address complex problems, using research, storytelling, and visualization to communicate service journeys and performance. My efforts will assist teams in understanding user needs, improving service outcomes, and nurturing a culture of continuous improvement and iteration. Additionally, I will contribute to a thriving design community by mentoring others, sharing best practices, and championing the value of service design throughout the organization. This role is perfect for someone who thrives on collaboration, values openness, and is passionate about making a real difference through thoughtful, evidence-based design.
Description
In terms of logistics, I will join one of our fantastic digital hubs located in Birmingham, Leeds, or Manchester, depending on what is most convenient for me. We operate on a hybrid working model, allowing for a blend of remote work and in-person collaboration in the hub. I can expect a competitive salary of up to £46,547 and a generous civil service pension featuring employer contributions worth 28.97%, totaling up to £12,876 per year. The leave package is appealing, starting at 25 days and increasing to 30 days over time, along with the opportunity to take up to 3 extra days off per month through flexi-time, plus all recognized public holidays.
