Must:
We are looking for Lead Technical Architects with experience in application design. You will need a solid understanding of architecture design across on-prem, cloud, and hybrid environments, encompassing networking, security, presentation, middleware, database, and integration aspects. Your expertise should also include informed architecture design through the use of principles, patterns, technical radars, practices, and standards. Additionally, you should have experience working with project delivery teams in agile, waterfall, and hybrid environments throughout the lifecycle—from concept to go-live. The ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions that can be demonstrated to stakeholders is essential. Familiarity with architecture modeling techniques and tools, as well as microservice and API-led architecture and integration design tools, techniques, and best practices, is crucial. You should also have knowledge of event-based architecture design, patterns (including pub-sub and data streaming), and modeling techniques across multiple domains in private data centers and public clouds.
Responsibilities
In your role as our Lead Technical Architect, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and overseeing the architecture of IT solutions that improve services for millions of our users. You will collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders across DWP Digital to support the delivery of solutions, providing options and recommendations at governance boards, and offering expert advice that informs major technology choices. Your work will involve designing, overseeing, and ensuring architecture governance of IT solutions that assist DWP customers and enable our colleagues to be as effective as possible. You will work collaboratively in multi-disciplinary teams with engineers and other experts to create efficient solution designs that meet user needs, ensuring technical quality and adherence to DWP's Digital Blueprint, Enterprise Architecture, and Product Roadmaps.

You'll join us at one of our digital hubs located in Birmingham, Blackpool, Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle, or Sheffield. We operate under a hybrid working model, allowing you to work from home some days and collaborate in-person on others. We offer competitive pay of up to £99,836, which includes a salary and Government Digital & Data allowance. Our pension scheme is excellent, with employer contributions worth 28.97%, amounting to over £21,735 per year. You’ll enjoy a generous annual leave package that starts at 26 days and increases to 31 days over time, along with the opportunity to take up to 3 extra days off each month on flexi-time.
