Requirements
Must:
We are seeking a Lead Infrastructure Engineer with strong experience in leading teams and departments in the design, implementation, administration, and support of container-related infrastructure solutions and services. You will need significant expertise in container build and runtime environments, Kubernetes administration, and associated technologies such as Flux, Argo CD, and Helm. A demonstrated experience in implementing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using GitLab or an equivalent tool is essential. A strong track record of writing and maintaining Infrastructure as Code is crucial, along with expert knowledge in developing and supporting cloud-based applications (Cloud Infrastructure Engineering).
Responsibilities
As a Lead Cloud Infrastructure Engineer at DWP Digital, my day revolves around designing, building, and running the cloud platforms that support some of the UK's most critical public services. I work hands-on with container platforms, infrastructure as code, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud-native services to ensure our systems are secure, scalable, and reliable. I collaborate with other technical teams, helping application developers optimize our shared cloud infrastructure. My role involves managing Kubernetes clusters, automating deployments with tools like Helm, Flux, and ArgoCD, and embedding security into everything I build to mitigate risks proactively. Additionally, I support live services, investigate and resolve issues, and ensure our platforms remain healthy and performant. I lead by example, mentor junior engineers, and contribute to shaping the technical direction of the team.
Description
I am proud to work at DWP, the UK's largest government department, which helps people into work and makes payments exceeding £195 billion a year to support millions. The scale of our work is extraordinary, and our purpose is unique. I enjoy hybrid working, splitting my time between home and one of our digital hubs located in Birmingham, Blackpool, Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle, or Sheffield. We offer competitive pay of up to £89,995, along with a civil service pension featuring employer contributions of 28.97%. Additional benefits include a generous leave package starting at 26 days, flexible working policies, time off for volunteering, discounts, and interest-free loans for commuting. We also prioritize professional development, coaching, mentoring, and career progression opportunities. Our application and selection process is streamlined, consisting of just two stages: submitting your application and undergoing a single stage online interview.
