Requirements
Must:
- Strong, hands-on experience working with Microfocus COBOL, especially in building or maintaining large-scale systems.
- Awareness of additional technologies such as Tuxedo, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, and scripting languages.
- Understanding of tools or languages like Python, Java, Ansible, Jira, and cloud platforms such as AWS.
- Knowledge of SQL and the fundamentals of object-oriented principles.
- Awareness of test-driven development and approaches like business-driven development.
- Understanding of automated testing and its role in continuous deployment environments.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and modernise platforms that deliver over £150bn in payments annually.
- Lead refactoring work across major COBOL applications and prepare them for strategic technology shifts.
- Coach and mentor junior engineers, supporting those in our Engineering Academy.
- Provide 3rd-line support, resolving complex technical issues requiring deep system understanding.
- Lead technical improvements to legacy codebases and plan infrastructure maintenance.
- Address live service challenges and influence future modernisation programmes.
