Requirements

Must:
We are looking for a candidate who has a strong background in IT infrastructure, cloud services, and cybersecurity. You should demonstrate continuous development in both technical and soft skills. Proficiency with security tools and technologies is essential, including SIEM, DLP, network protection, threat detection, and endpoint protection. A solid understanding of network infrastructure (VPNs, firewalls, switches, routers, LANs, Intrusion Detection, and vulnerability scanning) is crucial, as well as familiarity with IT and cybersecurity frameworks, standards, and regulations such as ISO27001, NIS2, GDPR, and the Cyber Assessment Framework. We expect you to understand the Cyber Kill Chain and MITRE ATT&CK frameworks. Additionally, the ability to collaborate effectively with various internal and external stakeholders is required. Relevant certifications such as Microsoft Security Operations Analyst (SC-200) or Azure Security Engineer (AZ-500), or equivalent knowledge, are necessary. Familiarity with the Microsoft security suite and further certifications like CISSP, CISM, or CRISC would be advantageous. A degree level education or equivalent is preferred.

Responsibilities

In the role of IT Security Operations Engineer, you will be responsible for safeguarding our operations by actively managing and enhancing our security platforms (primarily SIEM, XDR, and IDAM policies). You'll need to detect, prevent, and respond to cyber threats across our IT and operational networks. As a subject matter expert, you will implement and review security controls on applications, networks, and infrastructure to mitigate risks. It's important that you work closely with various internal teams, from IT colleagues to Train Engineers, to ensure that security best practices are understood and integrated into their processes and systems. You will develop incident response and security measures, conduct risk and exploitability assessments, oversee patch compliance, and manage the deployment of new security tools. Furthermore, you will identify gaps in our processes, implement enhancements, and drive automation for continuous improvement. On the compliance and governance front, you will ensure our practices meet known frameworks and standards and support internal and external security audits while providing technical assurance and evidence. You will also represent our function in cross-functional forums, steering committees, and stakeholder engagements, providing mentorship to the DDaT team members to foster a culture of continuous improvement.

Description

This is a permanent position based in Banbury with hybrid working options, requiring three days in the office. You may need to travel to different Chiltern sites outside your base location to support colleagues and attend meetings. We offer a competitive salary of up to £58,000 per annum. The closing date for applications is Monday, 24th November 2025. In this role, you will play a critical part in protecting the digital services that ensure a safe and reliable journey for our passengers and a secure working environment for our staff. You will report to the IT Information Security Manager and collaborate with the wider IT Team, representing Digital, Data, and Technology (DDaT). We look forward to your application.
