Must:
We are seeking a Lead Applied AI Engineer with the following qualifications:
- Proficiency in Python.
- Ability to work in dynamic environments and navigate ambiguity, prioritizing tasks where necessary.
- A humble attitude and eagerness to help others with empathy.
- Passion for building products that augment human capabilities and improve citizens' lives.
- Experience with natural language processing, deep learning, and generative AI.
- Familiarity with tools for working with Large Language Models via API or in a local context (e.g., HuggingFace transformers).
- Understanding of deploying and monitoring such systems in a cloud environment.
- Strong software engineering skills with a focus on building production-ready systems.
- Previous experience within Central Government is desirable.
Responsibilities
In this role, I will be expecting you to:
- Build AI agents or products that rely on AI agents.
- Develop and work with tools and interfaces for AI applications (e.g., Anthropics Model Context Protocol).
- Train traditional Machine Learning and Deep Learning models.
- Deliver applications to production.
- Gain hands-on experience with containerization technologies such as Docker.
- Design software services considering infrastructure, dependencies like databases and message queues, cloud environments, and collaboration with existing services.
- Support and enable technical teams through upskilling, mentoring, and conflict resolution.
- Own outcomes end-to-end, proactively seeking the knowledge needed to ensure team success.
- Clearly explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Collaborate effectively with non-engineering disciplines, such as design and user research, to plan and deliver valuable work as part of a product team.
- Employ a variety of methods to quickly become a subject matter expert in assigned areas.
Description
This role is initially for 6 months, with the possibility of extension, and is offered as INSIDE IR35, paying between £700-£750 per day, depending on experience. We are looking for someone who is excited about the opportunity to help in a large central government organization based in London, with the flexibility to work hybrid in locations like Bristol or Manchester.
