Requirements

Must:
We prefer candidates with a degree in Engineering or a related field, although it is not mandatory. You should be proficient in working with hand-held tools, especially cable cutters and crimps. The ability to work at heights using small to medium step ladders is essential. You must be willing to stay away occasionally if covering an extended geographical area with multiple site locations. A full UK Driving License is required, and you should be prepared for travel by flight or train, with costs covered by the company. Experience in networking, copper and fibre cabling, and deploying networking hardware is crucial. Excellent customer service skills and prior field technician service experience are also necessary.

Responsibilities

In this role, you will coordinate on-site cabling and hardware installation duties, collaborating with Core Network and Managed Hosting teams to ensure hardware is correctly deployed and connectivity is tested and reachable remotely. You will survey client premises for WiFi and 4G coverage nationwide and capture vital information needed for planning future deployments of associated hardware and cabling for large-scale nationwide projects. Your responsibilities will also include performing pre-cable and pre-deployment duties for circuits and client sites that are yet to be delivered or readied by vendors, troubleshooting and rectifying circuit connection errors, and circuit/hardware downtime scenarios using the ServiceNow ticketing system while closely working with internal teams. Additionally, you will participate in a Rota system to provide out-of-hours migration/switch-over support, perform hardware upgrades on legacy equipment, manage various planned and unplanned infrastructure upgrades, and assist Senior Data Centre Technicians with daily workload planning. It's vital to maintain adherence to internal and client-agreed SLAs and uphold ISO standards and best practices while ensuring cleanliness and presentation in all Data Centres.

Description

As a dedicated professional, you will also manage and process access, remote hands, and delivery tickets for co-location clients and internal works. You will need to show proficiency in physical remote hands support if covering Data Centre Technician staff and demonstrate competency with local policies and procedures of third-party Data Centre providers. Your goal is to gain an understanding of basic support functions within the Data Centre with a view to progress into a Data Centre Technician role and beyond. Lastly, you will participate in a 24x7x365 on-call Rota to provide support for client access at Data Centres, client migrations, smart hands requests, installation works for managed hosted clients, scheduled maintenances and upgrades, as well as addressing circuit down/faults and other works deemed out of hours by our clients.
