Requirements
Must:
- Strong hands-on engineering skills, with comprehensive knowledge of modern product-centric teams.
- Strong understanding of mortgage origination/administration systems or comparable regulated financial platforms.
- Experience in delivering and operating web-based MVC applications (e.g., Ruby on Rails, React) and APIs.
- Skilled in designing, managing, and optimizing relational SQL databases.
- Hands-on knowledge of cloud platforms (Azure or GCP) and cloud-native architectures.
- Experience across DevSecOps, automation, CI/CD, infrastructure, monitoring, and security best practices.
- Proven track record of running critical production services focusing on stability, performance, and security.
- Experience with React or other modern JavaScript frameworks is desirable.
- Familiarity with agile and DevOps practices, including automated CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience in building high-performing, motivated teams.
- Ability to communicate complex technical ideas simply and persuasively.
- Strong teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Responsibilities
- Provide hands-on technical leadership within the Home Finance product engineering team.
- Lead, coach, and inspire engineers in a culture of continuous improvement and high performance.
- Deepen the adoption of agile, DevSecOps, and modern engineering practices.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to deliver secure, stable, and scalable solutions.
- Ensure regulatory compliance and operational excellence across the platform.
- Shape the technology roadmap and contribute to architectural decisions.
- Manage operational risk, security posture, and incident response for Home Finance systems.
- Utilize data and insights to guide prioritization and engineering improvements.
- Support the Engineering Manager in talent development to build high-performing engineering capability.
- Remove waste to improve cost efficiency and increase value delivery for customers.
- Define and track team and departmental OKRs to align with Canada Lifes strategy.
- Build strong relationships with third-party suppliers for optimal service quality.
