Requirements
Must:
- Experience with Linux-based systems
- Experience with Cloud-based platform(s) - Google Cloud Platform, GCE, and/or GKE is a bonus
- Understanding of application architectures and messaging protocols
- Strong coding capabilities in scripting languages (Python, Bash, etc.); Java is a bonus
- Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills across disciplines
- Adaptable and flexible, demonstrating a positive and proactive approach towards change
- A growth mindset; eagerness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced trading environment
- Experience driving reliability improvements across a team or service
- Previous experience working in a DevOps or SRE role is desirable
- Previous experience working with metrics & monitoring tools such as OpenTelemetry, Splunk, Prometheus, Grafana, etc.
- Experience and knowledge of working with distributed systems and with Docker & Kubernetes
- Good knowledge of networking concepts (HTTP/TCP/UDP/IP)
- Experience in financial markets
- Experience with REST services and message-oriented middleware
- Experience working in an agile environment
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with SRE leadership and product development teams to define reliability metrics for our systems
- Elicit and document SLIs and SLOs via user-journey distillations
- Partner with product teams to deliver key observability, monitoring, and alerting improvements
- Continuously improve SLI & SLOs and observability data enabling faster issue detection and incident resolution
- Take accountability for the delivery of significant changes while managing delivery risks and dependencies
- Drive reliability backlog discussions with key stakeholders
- Design automation for deployment, scaling, and recovery
- Lead major incident response investigations, ensuring a customer-first approach and system recovery
- Conduct post-mortems after incidents
- Participate in on-call rotation
- Run production review meetings based on performance data against SLOs, error budgets, and incidents
- Contribute to disaster recovery and systems resiliency testing & improvements
- Mentor and guide junior SREs to enhance reliability engineering culture
- Mentor product team engineers on SRE practices, advocating for reliability as a practice
- Support the migration of markets applications to Google Cloud Platform (GCP), ensuring a seamless transition
- Stay informed on emerging technologies and industry trends, recognizing opportunities for CME Group
