Requirements
Must:
We are looking for individuals with a deep understanding of the Linux kernel, including components like virtual memory, VFS, IPC, network, and process scheduling subsystems. You should have proven experience in system performance tuning, balancing low latency versus throughput and NUMA optimization, as well as hardware/BIOS configuration. The ideal candidate will be proficient in reading and debugging C source code and possess the ability to create robust testing and certification processes to evaluate the impact of hardware changes and software updates on our application stack. A degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience is essential. We value eagerness to work collaboratively, share knowledge, and contribute to team goals.
Responsibilities
As part of our team, you will build and evolve eBPF-based tools to enhance observability of the network and other operating system layers. Improving our internal Linux kernel regression testing framework will be one of your critical tasks. You will also contribute to upstream Linux kernel development and handle enhancement requests. Investigating and resolving complex kernel and network performance issues in partnership with application teams will be key to your role. Additionally, you will develop tools to improve telemetry and deepen visibility into application behavior under various system loads, while creating internal documentation to support knowledge sharing and best engineering practices.

You will have the opportunity to work with modern open-source tools while maintaining mission-critical systems that host a wide array of applications for the Bloomberg Terminal product. Regular collaboration with OS and service-owning teams will be essential to ensure the stability and performance of operating systems and servers. We expect you to advise on the design, architecture, and utilization of enterprise-class operating systems, particularly focusing on Linux.
