Requirements
Must:
We expect you to have demonstrable experience in building high-scale observability solutions using open-source tools like ELK, Grafana, Prometheus, Nagios, Telegraf, and others. You should possess hands-on experience with middleware technologies (such as Kafka and API gateways) and data engineering tools/frameworks like Apache Spark, Airflow, Flink, and Hadoop ecosystems. A solid understanding of network technology fundamentals, data structures, scalable system design, and the ability to translate information in a structured manner for wider product and engineering teams is crucial.
Additionally, we value knowledge of DevOps tooling, GitOps, CI/CD, configuration management, Jenkins, build pipelines, and source control systems. Familiarity with cloud infrastructure services—compute, storage, networking, hybrid connectivity, monitoring/logging, security, and IAM—is necessary. It is also beneficial if you have programming experience in high-level languages such as Python, Java, Golang, along with NetDevOps automation, AI engineering (GenAI/Agentic AI), and API service development. Proficiency in Agile methodologies (Scrum/Kanban) and SRE-specific reporting is highly desirable.
Responsibilities
In this role, I will need you to design, develop, and implement solutions to complex business problems. You will collaborate with stakeholders to fully understand their needs and requirements, crafting solutions that not only meet those needs but also strike a balance between technology risks and business delivery while driving consistency.
Your accountabilities will include designing and developing solutions as products that can evolve, ensuring they align with modern software engineering practices and automated delivery tooling. This will involve identifying and implementing appropriate technologies and platforms while applying workload placement strategies to maximize the benefits of cloud capabilities like elasticity, serverless architectures, and containerization. You will be responsible for creating best practice designs that incorporate security principles and meet the Bank’s resiliency expectations.
You should support operational teams by fault-finding and resolving performance issues, as well as performing solution design impact assessments pertaining to risk, capacity, and cost. Additionally, you will develop the requisite architecture inputs needed to comply with the bank's governance processes.
Description
As a Vice President, you will contribute to or set strategies, drive requirements, and make recommendations for change. You'll manage resources, budgets, and policies while delivering continuous improvements and addressing policy breaches. If managing a team, your role will involve defining responsibilities, planning for future departmental needs, and influencing operational priorities. If you hold leadership responsibilities, we expect you to demonstrate leadership behaviors that foster an environment where colleagues can thrive and deliver excellent standards. The four LEAD behaviors are: Listen and be authentic, Energize and inspire, Align across the enterprise, and Develop others. You will advise key stakeholders on functional and cross-functional areas of impact and alignment, manage and mitigate risks, and demonstrate accountability for risk management within your team's work. We value collaboration with other business areas to stay aligned with strategies and objectives. You will be tasked with adopting and incorporating comprehensive research outcomes into problem-solving processes, and building lasting relationships with internal and external stakeholders to meet key business objectives. All colleagues are expected to embody the Barclays Values of Respect, Integrity, Service, Excellence, and Stewardship, guiding us in doing what we believe is right, along with demonstrating the Barclays Mindset—to Empower, Challenge, and Drive.
