We seek a Senior Software Engineer with practical hands-on skills across a range of development technologies and languages, including Java, Python, JavaScript, and SQL. You should have experience with various public cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, and GCP, along with their respective GenAI offerings like Bedrock, OpenAI, and Gemini. Highly valued skills include excellent relationship and stakeholder management skills, as well as being an articulate and effective communicator in both technical and business language. You should be capable of creating assessment approaches to identify emerging technologies and measuring the value of different solutions to technical challenges. In addition, we will assess key skills relevant to success in this role, including risk and controls, change and transformation, business acumen, strategic thinking, and job-specific technical skills.
Responsibilities
In this role, I will empower you to design, develop, and enhance software using various engineering methodologies to provide essential business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues. You will be responsible for the development and delivery of high-quality software solutions, ensuring that your code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance. Collaboration will be key; you will work closely with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration with business objectives. I encourage a culture of knowledge sharing and code quality, where you will participate in code reviews with your peers. Staying abreast of industry technology trends is vital, and you will actively contribute to the organization’s technology communities, fostering technical excellence and growth. Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities and a commitment to effective unit testing to ensure proper code design and reliability is also expected.
Description
This role is based in our Glasgow office. As an Assistant Vice President, you will consult on complex issues, provide advice to People Leaders, and help resolve escalated issues. I expect you to identify ways to mitigate risk and to develop new policies and procedures that support our control and governance agenda. You will take ownership of managing risk and strengthening controls related to your work, collaborating with other areas to maintain awareness of business strategy and activities. Engaging in complex data analysis from various sources to creatively solve problems is essential, as is the ability to communicate complex information effectively. You will also be expected to influence or convince stakeholders to achieve desired outcomes. All colleagues at Barclays are expected to embody our values of Respect, Integrity, Service, Excellence, and Stewardship, serving as our moral compass. Additionally, I hope you will embrace the Barclays Mindset—to Empower, Challenge, and Drive—guiding our behavior and approach in the workplace.
