We are looking for someone with strong experience as a Principal Level Database Administrator, specifically with a focus on PostgreSQL. A proven track record of implementing and leading Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices across large organizations or complex teams is essential. You should have extensive hands-on experience with Containers and Kubernetes, as well as in-depth knowledge of DevOps automation tools such as code versioning (Git), JIRA, Ansible, and database CI/CD tools and their implementation. Additional valuable skills include expertise in scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Python, Bash) for automation and migration tasks, experience with data migration tools, and proficiency in system configuration management tools such as Chef and Ansible for database server configurations. We will assess your critical skills relevant to success in this role, such as risk and controls, change and transformation, business acumen, strategic thinking, and job-specific technical skills.
Responsibilities
As a Senior Database Engineer, you will apply software engineering techniques, automation, and best practices in incident response to ensure the reliability, availability, and scalability of our systems, platforms, and technologies. Your accountabilities include ensuring the availability and performance of our systems and services through proactive monitoring, maintenance, and capacity planning. You will analyze and respond to system outages and disruptions while implementing preventative measures. Your role will involve developing tools and scripts to automate operational processes, reducing manual workload and improving efficiency. You will monitor and optimize system performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement best practices for performance tuning. Collaboration with development teams to integrate best practices for reliability and performance into the software development lifecycle will be vital, as will staying informed of industry technology trends and contributing to our technology communities.

This position can be based in our Knutsford or Glasgow locations. As a Vice President, you will contribute to or set strategy, drive requirements, and make recommendations for change. You will plan resources, budgets, and policies, manage and maintain processes, and lead continuous improvements. If managing a team, you will define jobs and responsibilities while counseling employees on performance. For individual contributors, you will be a subject matter expert, guiding technical direction and collaborating on multi-year assignments. You will advise key stakeholders, manage risks, and demonstrate leadership in relation to the work of your team.
