Must:
We are looking for a Java Server-Side Developer to join our Barclays Mobile Banking Engineering Feature team. To be successful in this role, you should have:
- Proficiency in Java: A deep understanding of Java, including core libraries, design patterns, Java build & testing frameworks, along with deployment tools using continuous development and integration tools and pipelines like Jenkins.
- Experience with RESTful API Development: The ability to design, implement, and maintain robust and scalable REST APIs, including knowledge of HTTP methods, status codes, and JSON handling.
- Experience with Mobile App Backend Optimization: An understanding of the specific challenges in backend optimization for mobile applications, including response times, security, and data efficiency.
- Familiarity with Database Management: Strong skills in working with relational databases (e.g., MySQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL), including writing database scripts with optimized queries and managing database performance.
- Previous experience in the Banking industry or Financial Services is highly valued.
Additional skills that would make you stand out include:
- Knowledge of Microservices Architecture: Experience in building and managing microservices for scalable and maintainable applications.
- Cloud Platform Experience: Familiarity with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud for deploying and managing backend services.
Responsibilities
In this role, I will be responsible for creating, developing, and enhancing software using various engineering methodologies to deliver business, platform, and technological capabilities for our customers and colleagues.
My accountabilities will include:
- Developing and delivering high-quality software solutions utilizing industry-aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools, ensuring that code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.
- Collaborating cross-functionally with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
- Participating in code reviews and promoting a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing among peers.
- Keeping informed of industry technology trends and innovations, actively contributing to our technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
- Adhering to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.
- Implementing effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.
Description
In addition, I will engage with complex issues, providing advice to People Leaders to support the resolution of escalated issues. Itβs essential for me to identify ways to mitigate risk and develop new policies and procedures that support our control and governance agenda.
I will take ownership in managing risk and strengthening controls related to my work, while also collaboratively working with other areas of the company to maintain alignment with our business strategy.
Data analysis will be a part of my role as I will be creatively solving problems by synthesizing information from multiple internal and external sources, which may include sensitive or complex information. My goal will include influencing and convincing stakeholders to achieve desired outcomes.
