Requirements
Must:
To be successful as a Mainframe IMS DBA, you should have:
- Extensive experience with IMS databases (Fastpath and Full Function), PSB/PCB configuration, and IMSv15.
- Demonstrable experience with BMC and IBM toolsets, JCL scripting, TWS scheduling, and RACF security.
- Solid experience in Programming in Assembler or COBOL within enterprise environments.
Additionally, some other highly valued skills may include:
- Troubleshooting infrastructure issues and supporting live production systems.
- Understanding mainframe architecture and IMS to Db2 migration processes.
- Supporting change, transformation, and modernization across legacy platforms.
You may be assessed on key critical skills relevant for success in this role, such as risk and controls, change and transformation, business acumen, strategic thinking, and digital and technology, alongside job-specific technical skills.
Responsibilities
In your role, you will be responsible for:
- Build Engineering: Developing, delivering, and maintaining high-quality infrastructure solutions to meet business requirements while ensuring measurable reliability, performance, availability, and ease of use.
- Incident Management: Monitoring IT infrastructure and system performance to identify and address potential issues, vulnerabilities, or outages, using data to reduce mean time to resolution.
- Automation: Developing and implementing automated tasks and processes to enhance efficiency and minimize manual intervention through software scripting and coding.
- Security: Implementing secure configurations and measures to protect our infrastructure against cyber-attacks, vulnerabilities, and security threats, safeguarding hardware, software, and data from unauthorized access.
- Teamwork: Collaborating cross-functionally with product managers, architects, and other engineers to define IT infrastructure requirements, devise solutions, and ensure alignment with business objectives.
- Learning: Staying informed of industry technology trends and actively contributing to the organization's technology communities to promote a culture of technical excellence and personal growth.
Description
This role is based in Knutsford. As a Mainframe IMS DBA, you’ll help us build and maintain infrastructure platforms and products that support our applications and data systems, ensuring that our infrastructure is reliable, scalable, and secure. If you have leadership responsibilities, we expect you to advise and influence decision making, collaborate with other functions, and lead your team in pursuing objectives through clear leadership behaviors. For individual contributors, you will lead collaborative assignments, guiding team members through structured tasks and recognizing when to involve other specializations to achieve outcomes.
