Must:
We are looking for a Java Server-Side Developer with the following skills:
- Proficiency in Java, including a deep understanding of core libraries, design patterns, build and testing frameworks, and deployment tools using continuous development and integration pipelines such as Jenkins.
- Experience designing, implementing, and maintaining robust RESTful APIs, with knowledge of HTTP methods, status codes, and JSON handling.
- Understanding the challenges in backend optimization for mobile applications, focusing on response times, security, and data efficiency.
- Strong skills in relational database management (e.g., MySQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL), including the ability to write optimized database scripts and manage performance.
- Previous experience in the banking industry or financial services is preferred.
Responsibilities
As a Java Server-Side Developer, your key responsibilities will include:
- Designing, developing, and improving software using various engineering methodologies to provide business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues.
- Developing and delivering high-quality software solutions utilizing industry-standard programming languages, frameworks, and tools.
- Ensuring that your code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.
- Collaborating with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements and devise solution strategies that align with business objectives.
- Participating in code reviews and promoting a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing among peers.
- Staying informed about industry technology trends and contributing to our technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
- Adhering to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities and protect sensitive data while ensuring secure software solutions.
- Implementing effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.
- Consulting on complex issues and providing advice to support the resolution of escalated matters.
- Identifying risk mitigation strategies and developing new policies/procedures to support our control and governance agenda.
- Collaborating with various areas of work to align business strategies and activities.

This role will be based out of our Knutsford office, although we also consider applicants from Northampton and Manchester locations.
