Requirements
Must:
As a Java Server-Side Developer, you should possess the following qualifications:
- Proficiency in Java: A deep understanding of Java, including core libraries, design patterns, and Java build & testing frameworks, along with deployment tools using continuous development and integration tools such as Jenkins.
- Experience with RESTful API Development: The ability to design, implement, and maintain robust, scalable REST APIs, with knowledge of HTTP methods, status codes, and JSON handling.
- Experience with Mobile App Backend Optimization: An understanding of the specific challenges in backend optimization for mobile applications, including response times, security, and data efficiency.
- Familiarity with Database Management: Strong skills in working with relational databases (e.g., MySQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL), including writing database scripts with optimized queries and managing database performance.
- Previous experience in the Banking industry or Financial Services is advantageous.
Additional skills that we highly value include:
- Knowledge of Microservices Architecture: Experience in building and managing microservices for more scalable and maintainable applications.
- Cloud Platform Experience: Familiarity with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud for deploying and managing backend services.
Responsibilities
In this role, your primary responsibilities will involve:
- Designing, developing, and improving software using various engineering methodologies to provide business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues.
- Delivering high-quality software solutions by using industry-aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools, and ensuring that the code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.
- Collaborating cross-functionally with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements and devise solution strategies, ensuring seamless integration with business objectives.
- Participating in code reviews and promoting a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing, while adhering to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities and protect sensitive data.
- Implementing effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.

This role will be based out of our Knutsford office, with considerations for our Northampton and Manchester locations as well. We expect you to take ownership of managing risk and strengthening controls related to your work. You will perform complex analyses of data from various sources to solve problems creatively and effectively while communicating complex information clearly to stakeholders.
