Requirements
Must:
We seek a Database Engineer with substantial experience as a Database Administrator, particularly focusing on PostgreSQL along with familiarity in similar database technologies such as Oracle or MS-SQL. You should have a strong background in implementing and leading Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices across large organizations or complex teams, as well as hands-on experience with Containers and Kubernetes. Proficiency in DevOps automation tools, including code versioning (Git), JIRA, Ansible, and database CI/CD tools is essential.
Additionally, we highly value expertise in scripting languages like PowerShell, Python, or Bash for automation and migration tasks. Experience in working with data migration tools, as well as knowledge of system configuration management tools such as Chef and Ansible for database server configurations, is preferred. We will assess your critical skills, including risk and controls, change and transformation, business acumen, strategic thinking, digital and technology proficiency, alongside job-specific technical skills.

Responsibilities
In this position, I’ll expect you to apply software engineering techniques, automation, and best practices in incident response to ensure that our systems, platforms, and technology maintain reliability, availability, and scalability. Your key accountabilities will include:
- Ensuring the availability, performance, and scalability of systems and services through active monitoring, maintenance, and capacity planning.
- Analyzing and responding to system outages and disruptions while implementing measures to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
- Developing tools and scripts to automate operational processes, which will reduce manual workload, enhance efficiency, and improve system resilience.
- Monitoring and optimizing system performance and resource usage, addressing bottlenecks, and implementing best practices for performance tuning.
- Collaborating with development teams to integrate best practices for reliability, scalability, and performance into the software development lifecycle, while also working closely with other teams for smooth operations.
- Keeping abreast of industry technology trends and innovations, contributing to our technology communities to promote a culture of technical excellence and growth.

This role can be based in either our Knutsford or Glasgow locations.
