Must:
I am looking for candidates who have a strong knowledge of the full software development lifecycle, including design, coding, testing, and integration, using modern development tools and methodologies. Practical experience in programming with Ada, C, or C++, preferably within real-time or embedded systems environments, is essential. Additionally, proficiency in object-oriented design and modeling techniques, including UML, SysML, or XML is required. Experience in project planning, task scheduling, and progress reporting within engineering programs is crucial. I seek individuals with a proven ability to deliver complex software solutions that meet customer requirements and integrate with broader system and business needs.
Responsibilities
In this role, I will expect you to lead and manage a team of software engineers, overseeing development activities across multiple project phases. You will collaborate closely with the Project Engineering Manager to align software tasks with wider project goals, budgets, and schedules. Ensuring compliance with software planning, configuration, risk, and quality management processes through the maintenance of key project plans and registers will be important. You will drive continuous improvement through defect prevention, metrics analysis, and process refinement. Supporting cross-functional engagement by liaising with other teams, participating in reviews, and contributing to project-wide coordination will be essential. Lastly, you will coach, mentor, and develop team members to ensure high performance, motivation, and skills growth.
Description

The salary for this position is circa £65,000, commensurate with skills and experience. The Sampson Radar Software team, a group of 30 personnel, provides support and capability upgrades to the Royal Navy and their products. This role will involve delivering software products to the customer as part of a team responsible for enhancements over the next 10 years, while also providing ongoing support to existing products.
