Requirements
Must:
- PhD in a relevant discipline with circa 10+ years of experience in an AI/ML role in industry or academia, preferably in the Defence sector.
- Experience leading R&D teams with a minimum of 5 developers.
- Experience in Engineering Assurance activities.
- Proposal writing experience (e.g., Dstl, NS, EPSRC) is essential.
- Strong background in the mathematics, statistics, and computational techniques underpinning AI/ML.
- Deep expertise in at least one area of AI/ML with good knowledge across all areas.
Of particular interest:
- Experience in AI/ML for imagery and remote sensing applications.
- Knowledge of reinforcement learning, Natural Language Processing, Large Language Models, and knowledge graphs.
- Experience in AI/ML for RF and EW, radar, sonar, acoustics, and autonomy.
Responsibilities
- Lead technical delivery of large AI projects, preparing and delivering technical reports, proposals, and supporting material.
- Identify novel research topics with potential partnerships with leading UK Universities or BAE Systems divisions.
- Present research topics effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences internally and externally.
- Undertake technical mentoring of junior staff.
- Provide engineering assurance on bids, publications, and project deliverables, improving the quality of outputs using your skills and experience.
