Requirements
Must:
- Comprehensive expertise in mission-critical infrastructure systems.
- Knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems in data centre environments.
- Previous experience in mission-critical environments such as data centres, hospitals, power plants, telecommunications, or military facilities.
- Advanced education in technology or engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
- Proven leadership experience in developing high-performing technical teams.
- Track record of raising performance standards and delivering operational excellence.
- Experience leading multi-disciplinary teams in complex, high-availability environments, typically with 5+ years of relevant experience or equivalent progressive leadership roles.
- Strong interpersonal skills for effective client relationship management.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities with strong numerical literacy.
- Ability to thrive both independently and collaboratively while managing multiple priorities.
- Proactive, flexible approach with natural initiative and commitment to operational excellence.
- Full UK/EU driving license.
- Understanding of UK regulatory requirements and industry standards.
- Current knowledge of data centre infrastructure trends and best practices.
Responsibilities
- Manage 24/7 site engineering operations, including shift planning, maintenance schedules, and Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM).
- Oversee critical infrastructure systems including electrical components (feeders, transformers, generators, switchgear, UPS systems, ATS units, PDU units) and mechanical systems (chillers, pumps, air handling units).
- Drive Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) improvements, optimizing cooling, power, and infrastructure for maximum efficiency.
- Manage and optimize space and power to maximize opportunities for growth and operational efficiency.
- Plan and deliver site infrastructure projects on time, within scope, and on budget.
- Lead, inspire, and develop teams of experienced technical professionals.
- Act as a role model, driving service excellence, training, and development for all team members.
- Foster an inclusive environment that encourages innovation and empowers team members to solve complex operational challenges.
- Implement rigorous training programs that prepare staff for various operational scenarios through systematic skill development.
- Ensure adherence to and exceed Health & Safety standards in all operations.
- Maintain compliance with health & safety, security procedures, and compliance accreditations.
- Maintain a safe working environment and drive continuous safety improvements.
- Recommend and control site budgets, ensuring expenditure aligns with agreed objectives and delivers best value.
- Manage budgets, cost controls, and resource planning effectively.
- Drive operational efficiency initiatives that reduce costs while maintaining service quality.
- Maintain an up-to-date Risk Register and oversee all site inspections.
- Act as senior incident lead during critical events, coordinating teams and ensuring timely resolution.
- Lead root cause analysis within broader operational contexts and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
- Oversee subcontractor management and ensure vendors consistently deliver to agreed KPIs and SLAs.
- Build strong supplier relationships and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Partner closely with senior stakeholders on site capacity planning and infrastructure strategy.
