Requirements
Must:
- Strong background in data architecture with a foundation in software engineering
- Experience defining data strategy, migration, and integration approaches
- Hands-on capability with Java, Scala, or Python where required
- Experience working with big data technologies and distributed systems
- Strong knowledge of cloud platforms (Azure preferred)
- Experience across both open-source and enterprise data platforms
- Strong understanding of data modelling and architectural methodologies
- Experience with microservices architecture and REST-based systems
- Ability to design for structured and unstructured data environments
- Understanding of non-functional requirements and system design principles
- Ability to review code and ensure engineering quality
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate technical detail clearly
- Comfortable engaging with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Ability to analyse complex problems and define practical solutions
- Collaborative approach to delivery across multidisciplinary teams
- Ability to work on engagements requiring UK Government BPSS and SC security clearance, in line with programme requirements
Responsibilities
- Define architecture across complex, data-driven programmes
- Establish data strategy, integration, and migration approaches
- Analyse existing systems and map target-state architecture
- Define and maintain architecture principles, standards, and governance
- Design scalable solutions for distributed and large-scale data systems
- Develop enterprise-level data models across platforms and services
- Ensure alignment with architectural standards throughout delivery
- Support and govern engineering teams through implementation
- Mentor and develop engineers and junior architects
