Requirements
Must:
- Proven experience delivering large-scale systems with high performance, availability, and fault-tolerance.
- Expertise in Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform) and CI/CD systems.
- Deep knowledge of containers, orchestration (Kubernetes), and service-mesh patterns (Istio).
- Strong API design and security skills (REST/OpenAPI, authN/Z, mTLS, certificate lifecycle).
- Scripting proficiency in Bash or Python.
- Depth in GCP services, including:
- GKE (Google Kubernetes Engine)
- Cloud Load Balancing
- Cloud Armor
- Istio
- Stackdriver (Cloud Monitoring & Logging)
- Apigee for API Management
Desirable:
- Familiarity with Harness, HashiCorp Vault, Dynatrace, Docker/buildah, NodeJS for API tooling.
- Relevant GCP certifications.
Responsibilities
- Engineering Leadership: Lead hands-on, balancing technical work with mentoring and coaching to enhance reliability, security, and simplicity.
- Platform Development: Design, build, and operate Google Cloud Platform (GCP) capabilities using Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform) and modern CI/CD tools (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Harness, Spinnaker).
- Security & Reliability: Implement secure-by-design principles from architecture to runtime, protecting both colleagues and customers.
- Performance & Automation: Define and manage SLOs/SLIs, and implement observability, performance tuning, and automation to minimize toil.
- API-First Enablement: Facilitate API-first delivery with reusable patterns for API producers and consumers.
- Community & Mentorship: Mentor engineers, contribute to communities of practice, and uphold Platform Engineering standards.

We are hiring Senior Cloud Platform Engineers (GCP) in Halifax, West Yorkshire for a six-month period. We have 3 positions available, with a mandatory requirement of working 3 days per week. We are looking for individuals who are eager to shape the future of cloud engineering and play a crucial role in our Cloud Native Engineering Lab.
