Requirements
Must:
- A Masters or PhD in Computer Science, Data Science, Bioinformatics, or equivalent experience
- Four years in a data engineering or similar role, with experience in building and maintaining data pipelines
- Familiarity with various cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, and Azure
- Strong experience with Python and SQL
- Experience working with data lakes, warehouses, and large-scale datasets
- Understanding of data privacy and security principles
- Exposure to life sciences, genomics, or regulated medical environments (e.g., ISO 13485)
- Comfortable working across both on-premise and cloud-based data systems
- Clear communicator, able to translate complex data concepts to cross-functional teams
Responsibilities
- Take ownership of all data-related tasks, including shaping architecture, strategy, and pipeline design for the life-saving platform
- Design and implement scalable, secure data pipelines to facilitate data access for data scientists and machine learning engineers
- Lead tasks related to data management strategy, data lineage tracking, and storage infrastructure design
- Collaborate closely with engineers and scientists to connect experimental data to actionable insights, including data streaming from DNA sequencers and LIMS systems integration
- Work on improving data traceability and accessibility to support scientific experiments

We are a next-gen diagnostics start-up tackling significant challenges in modern medicine. Our cutting-edge work combines AI, genomics, and diagnostics with the aim of saving lives. Following a successful product launch and securing Series A funding, we are scaling rapidly and looking for our first Data Engineer. This role offers the opportunity for real autonomy and leadership in shaping how data is managed across our organization. We maintain a flexible, remote-first culture, with monthly visits to our Bristol lab covered by travel costs. The salary is up to £57,000 depending on experience, and we also provide a wellbeing budget, generous parental leave, and flexible working hours.
