We require a candidate with at least 5 years of experience in data-focused roles, ideally progressing from a Data Analyst to a Data Engineer. Proven experience within the Fintech or Payments industry is essential, as is a strong understanding of the data challenges and regulatory context in this sector. The ideal candidate will have deep proficiency in Python, Snowflake, SQL, and dbt. Excellent communication and collaboration skills are necessary for working effectively across data, product, and business teams. Additionally, candidates should possess a solid grasp of modern data modeling techniques, including star/snowflake schemas and documentation. Experience in cloud-based environments and familiarity with Infrastructure as Code tools like Terraform is a plus. We value a proactive, delivery-focused approach to work and the ability to contribute quickly in a fast-moving environment.
Responsibilities
In this role, you will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining dbt models and SQL transformations to support analytical and operational use cases. You will develop and maintain Python workflows for data ingestion, transformation, and automation. Engineering scalable and performant Snowflake pipelines and data models aligned with business and product needs will be key aspects of your job. You will also partner closely with analysts, product managers, and engineers to translate complex business requirements into data-driven solutions. Writing production-grade SQL to ensure data quality through testing, documentation, and version control will be part of your daily tasks. We expect you to promote best practices around data reliability, observability, and maintainability. Optional but valued contributions to Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD pipelines, such as Terraform and GitHub Actions, would be appreciated.
Description
We are looking for a well-rounded, communicative Data Engineer with a strong background in data analytics and experience within the Fintech sector. This role is ideal for someone who began their career as a Data Analyst and has since transitioned into a more engineering-focused position. You should enjoy understanding the business context just as much as building the data solutions behind it. This is a hands-on, collaborative role, suited to someone who confidently communicates with data, product, and engineering teams, rather than a 'heads-down coder'. Nice to have skills include experience with Power BI or other data visualization tools, familiarity with orchestration tools such as Airflow, Prefect, or Dagster, an understanding of CI/CD practices in data and analytics engineering, and knowledge of data governance, observability, and security best practices in cloud environments. We offer a competitive salary range of £90,000-£100,000 for this full-time role located in the City of London.
